Q1. How many scholarships are awarded? A1. The number varies from year to year. Last year (2008) Kaiser Permanente awarded 16 scholarships within Colorado. This year (2009) we again plan to award 17 scholarships. Q2. How much are the awards? A2. Scholarships will range from $1,400 - $2,600. Q3. How will the scholarship monies be distributed? A3. The scholarship monies will be disbursed to the educational institution only after the student has supplied Kaiser Permanente with verification of enrollment, and the contact information for the Financial Aid Office. Monies will be distributed in the fall only. Additionally, scholarship funds may NOT be used to pay for classes that have already been taken and may not be applied to outstanding balances for previous debt incurred. Q4. Are students pursuing graduate or doctoral degrees eligible for this scholarship? A4. Yes. Any student pursing a graduate or doctoral degree in a health care or public health field at an accredited institution is eligible. Q5. If an individual does not identify with the specified diverse populations, are they eligible for an award? A5. Yes, however the purpose of the scholarships are to target underrepresented populations in an effort to have an impact on the shortage of diverse health professionals. Applicants who do not identify as one of the specific diverse populations will not earn points for those criteria. Q6. When will I be notified if I’ve been selected as a recipient? A6. Recipients are mailed a letter early in March informing them whether or not they have received an award. Q7. If I have been out of school/college for a while, do you still need my transcripts? A7. Yes. Every applicant must provide their most recent official transcript. Q8. Will applications received after the deadline, but postmarked before the deadline be considered? A8. No, complete applications must arrive on or prior to the deadline. Packets received after the deadline will not be considered, regardless of the postmark. Q9. I am an international student, am I eligible for the scholarship? A9. No. You must be a Colorado resident to apply. Q10. How do you define Colorado residency? A10. Guidelines established by the Colorado Department of Higher Education state that Colorado residency is determined by the student and/or parents or legal guardian residing within the state of Colorado boundaries. An individual must have been domiciled in Colorado for one calendar year before he/she can be considered a Colorado resident. Applicant must be a resident during time of the application process. Q11. What is an official transcript? A11. An official transcript is a summary of your cumulative grades to date. Official transcripts are printed form the Registrars Office, and include the official institution seal and/or signature of the current Registrar. Most transcripts come in a sealed envelope. An official transcript IS NOT a Xeroxed copy of an official transcript, printed from the internet, or without an official seal.
