Family and Medical Leave
Staff who have completed one year of service and worked a minimum of 1,250 hours during the past 12 months may take up to 12 weeks of family and medical unpaid leave each rolling 12-month period for 1) the birth and care of a newborn, 2) placement of a child for adoption or foster care, 3) care of a spouse, domestic partner, child, or own parent with a serious health condition, or 4) staff member's own serious health condition. All unpaid leave is first substituted by any appropriate paid leave accumulated, e.g., sick, vacation, etc. The subsitution of paid leave for unpaid leave does not extend the 12-week FML leave period.
Hawaii Family Leave
Staff who have completed six consecutive months of service may take up to four weeks of leave each calendar year for 1) care of a newborn or newly adopted child or 2) care of a child (biological, step, adopted, or foster), spouse, domestic partner, or parent (biological, foster, adoptive, step, parent-in-law, legal guardian, grandparent, and grandparent-in-law) with a serious health condition. The first ten days of leave is paid from sick hours, if any, and the remaining time is substituted by any appropriate accumulated paid leave, e.g., vacation, personal, etc. The substitution of paid leave for unpaid leave does not extend the four-week HFL leave period.

Hawaii Family Leave taken for purposes covered by the Family and Medical Leave will count as part of the 12 weeks of Family and Medical Leave allowed per 12-month period.

Sabbatical Leave
At the discretion of the Group’s Board of Directors, a shareholder may be granted sabbatical leave after three consecutive years of full-time service equal to one month for each year of service up to a maximum of 12 months to acquire skills or for other activities that will directly benefit the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program.
