Quality Leader in Health Care |
 |
|
The Permanente Medical Group was established in 1948 with
seven original partners. Today, we are an integral part of
Kaiser Permanente with the stability of more than 50 years
serving the communities of Northern California.
As the quality leader in health care, our medical group of
more than 6,000 physicians provides care to over 3.2 million
Kaiser Foundation Health Plans members throughout Northern
California. We have been nationally recognized for our high
level of patient satisfaction and our integrated health care
program supports the professional autonomy that our physicians
value in their clinical decisions. Our infrastructure is supported
by one of the largest clinical data information systems in
the United States and we pride ourselves in the ability to
utilize technology to meet the needs of the diverse membership
that we serve.
In Northern California, we have 19 accredited Kaiser Foundation
Hospitals with 3 accredited residency
programs in San Francisco, Oakland and Santa Clara. In
addition, Kaiser Permanente has affiliations with Stanford
University, University of California San Francisco and University
of California Davis. Combined TPMG physicians’ train
350 residents in 15 medical specialties. More than 600 TPMG
physicians serve on the clinical faculties of medical schools,
including Stanford, UCSF and UC Davis. Kaiser Permanente is
also an internationally renowned research institute, with
over 300 research projects currently being conducted in Northern
California.

Many of our accomplishments have received recent recognition. The
Permanente Medical Group is very proud of our integrated health
care delivery system, which has set us apart for over 50 years.

US News & World Report reported that Kaiser Permanente Northern California ranked as the top health plan in California, and is the only commercial plan in the state to make the magazine's "Top 50" health plans nationwide (www.usnews.com). |
 |
Kaiser Permanente Northern California received the best possible score - four stars in every category - getting healthy, getting better, living with illness, access and service, and qualified providers - and an overall accreditation rating of "Excellent" for both Commercial and Medicare Plans on the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) State of Health Care Quality 2006 report card (www.ncqa.org). |
 |
We earned higher marks on overall HMO and Quality Care ratings than any other health plan in the state on the 2006 Quality of Care Report Card from the California Office of the Patient Advocate (OPA). In fact, Kaiser Permanente was the only plan to receive any four-star, or excellent, ratings (www.opa.ca.gov). |
 |
No other health plan came closer to the scores Kaiser Permanente earned on the California Cooperative Healthcare Reporting Initiative (CCHRI) 2006 Health Plan Report Card. With the highest ranking on 21 of 30 measures, KP had more top scores than all other health plans combined (www.cchri.org). |
 |
The Permanente Medical Group was honored for every one of its five reporting areas - East Bay, North Bay, Peninsula, Central Valley, and North Valley - by the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) as "top performing" in the state in preventive care and chronic care management, patient satisfaction, and use of information technology (www.iha.org). |
